Executive Director of Missouri Housing Agency to Discuss Plans for Changes
Kansas City, MO – December 16, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Margaret Lineberry, Executive Director of Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), will be sharing her ideas for agency and program restructuring at the MHDC Board meeting on Friday, December 17, in Jefferson City.
The matters that Lineberry will be presenting to the Board include 1) reducing the development costs of affordable housing projects that utilize Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), which the commission administers; 2) increasing the affordability of such developments while enhancing the services provided to their residents; and 3) proactively targeting tax credits to serve areas with the greatest need. She will also discuss internal restructuring of the agency to assist in realizing these ends.
Lineberry says that MHDC’s primary responsibility is to ensure that taxpayers and residents of affordable housing developments overseen by MHDC receive the greatest “bang for the buck” in the construction and operation of these developments.
Governor Jay Nixon earlier this year convened the Tax Credit Review Commission to study Missouri’s existing 61 tax credit programs, including the LIHTC, and to make recommendations for their more efficient and effective operation. “I have had an opportunity to study MHDC’s administration of the LIHTC over the past four months since becoming executive director,” Lineberry said, “and I believe these ideas will refine both our agency’s administration of the LIHTC as well as our overall operations. I look forward to discussing these ideas with our Commissioners and implementing positive changes for our agency.”
The Board meeting is scheduled for this Friday, at 9:00 a.m., at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. MHDC board meetings are open to the public.
Missouri Housing Development Commission provides financing for the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing in Missouri, as well as the administration of low-interest mortgage loan programs available to first-time homebuyers. MHDC also administers the Missouri Housing Trust Fund to help prevent homelessness and to provide emergency housing assistance for very low-income Missourians.
