Attorney General Koster invites banking leaders to Monday meeting in his Supreme Court office — purpose to discuss ways to help Joplin homeowners with mortgage and credit issues caused by tornado –

Jefferson City, MO – June 2, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Attorney General Chris Koster said today he has invited major banking interests that conduct business in the Joplin area to a meeting in his Supreme Court office in Jefferson City Monday to brainstorm ways to help the many Joplin homeowners who are likely to experience mortgage- and credit-related issues in the coming months.
“For many Joplin residents, their homes are gone, their paperwork is gone, their mailboxes are gone, their wallets are gone. Every aspect of the mortgage-servicing process has been crushed,” Koster said. “My hope is that this meeting will facilitate a coordinated set of ideas to assist our neighbors in need.”
Koster said the reaction by banks to his invitation has been encouraging, and indicates a willingness to find ways to help people in Joplin. He noted that some national banks have activated their disaster relief procedures. Koster said his first goal is to provide a brainstorming session that shares best practices and perhaps brings uniformity to some of the approaches utilized across the industry. He said his second goal is to offer tornado victims information they need regarding their financial lives in the coming months.
