Protecting Ratepayers from Washington Mandates

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) today passed the Ratepayer Protection Act, providing states relief from the EPA’s attempt to unilaterally regulate states’ electricity systems, and protecting Missourians from continued federal overreach that would raise utility rates for everyone.

“This administration continues to impose one-size-fits-all policies without taking into account the harsh effects they have on everyday Americans,” Hartzler stated. “At a time when many are still finding it difficult to make ends meet, introducing mandates that will cause everyday Americans’ heating and cooling bills to skyrocket is not right. These CO2 mandates are simply the next in a series of these top-down mandates from this administration that just does not have the best interests of the American people in mind.”

“This bill allows states to opt out of the federal or state “power plan” that is mandated by this rule if the plan is found to have significant adverse effects on those paying for power,” Hartzler added. “With some forecasting this rule to cost over $400 billion between 2017 and 2031, serious concerns from many states have been raised. During that time period, Missourians are expected to see a 12 percent increase per year. Clearly, sweeping Washington mandates are not the answer to every perceived problem, and my colleagues and I in the House will continue working to make sure Americans’ interests are rightly protected by rejecting these onerous rules.”

Congresswoman Hartzler represents Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She serves on the House Agriculture, Armed Services, and Budget Committees.
