The dangers of radon exposure often go overlooked, perhaps due to the fact that radon is an invisible gas that has no odor or taste. However, according the American Lung Association and U.S. Surgeon General, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, resulting in an estimated 15,000-22,000 deaths each year. Locally, in Kansas City, an average of one of every three homes test positive for levels above the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) recommended safe level.

Financial Services Committee Housing and Insurance Chairman U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) introduced legislation today that would make targeted reforms at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service (RHS).

EPA Region 7 has reached a proposed settlement that includes a $35,000 penalty to settle violations of the Clean Water Act associated with Wayne County, Mo., landowners Roger and Ken Williams. The property is located near Clubb, Mo.
