Luetkemeyer Introduces Legislation to Make Targeted Reforms to Federal Housing Programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 8, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Financial Services Committee Housing and Insurance Chairman U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) introduced legislation today that would make targeted reforms at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service (RHS).

“2015 marks 50 years since the beginning of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. 50 years later, housing authorities struggle to meet the demands of their communities and survive the ever-growing regulatory onslaught; affordable housing is less and less affordable; and flexibility is a rare commodity despite the fact that it is needed now more than ever. As chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, I have worked with my colleagues to develop legislation that seeks to take the first steps to reform the programs and processes at HUD and RHS. These reforms will help to put our nation’s housing programs on a path to maximize effectiveness and deliver more opportunity for both people in need and the organizations that serve them.
