Luetkemeyer, Subcommittee Convene Hearing on Comparison of U.K., U.S. Models for Affordable Housing

Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement upon conclusion of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee titled “The Future of Housing in America: A Comparison of the United Kingdom and United States Models for Affordable Housing.”

“Over the last year and a half, this subcommittee has examined the state of housing in America in an attempt to identify ways to reform the current system and serve more people in need. Today, we looked beyond our own borders and examined the housing polices that changed the course of the United Kingdom’s welfare state. The U.K. housing model, developed by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, has focused on the transfer of government-owned housing to non-profit organizations which has helped to expand the capacity of non-profits to serve communities across Great Britain. We must continue to explore innovative solutoins to combat poverty in America and today’s assessment of an alternative housing model is part of that process.”
