Columbia, MO – January 27, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Last October, President Barack Obama had successfully held the dedication of a Washington D.C. national memorial dedicated to the late Martin Luther King, Jr. This 2012, one of the dedication’s organizers – who also happens to be an alumnus of the university – is slated to gift his old alma mater with a replica of the said memorial.

Born on January 15, 1929, King is arguably the best known leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, a position that was made more popular by his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

A 1977 graduate, Ty Christian had been designated by the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation as its chief marketing strategist. Thanks to Christian’s exemplary leadership skills and marketing expertise, the foundation had successfully raised $115 million. His hard work had not gone unnoticed by the public either as Christian had received multiple awards from various organizations in the advertising industry. In 2004, the College of Arts and Science of the University of Missouri had joined Christian’s long line admirers, having bequeathed him with a Distinguished Alumnus Award.

The presentation of the replica structure will be a part of the university’s MU Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. 2012 event. Serving as the event’s keynote speaker is a correspondent from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Larry Wilmore. Other professional journalists of the well-known journalist include producing, writing, and acting in various T.V. programs such as The Office, The Bernie Mac Show, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Wilmore had also received numerous awards over the years, including an Emmy as well as an Image Award from theNational Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Lastly, Wilmore also had a book published in 2008,entitled I’d Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts.

Aside from serving as the official launch of the university’s new Martin Luther King Memorial, the event will also be used to present an award of recognition to a local or business in Boone County in honor of the recipient’s extraordinary display of leadership and inspiration in advancing the community’s goals for ethnic and cultural diversity.

The presentation will be held in the Missouri Theater of the University of Missouri at 203 S. 9th Street, Columbia, Missouri on January 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
