University of Missouri to Award Writer William Trogdon an Honorary Degree

Columbia, MO – December 2, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — University of Missouri officers will present writer William Trogdon for his outstanding work in the field of writing. Trogdon is known in the literary community as William Least Heat-Moon, also given an honorary degree in the Honors Commencement Ceremony in Fall 2011.

William Trogdon is a world famous travel author who had his first book “Blue Highways” released in 1982. In this book, William Trogdon shares to his readers his personal cross-country trip in his van. This book had a huge success, staying at the top of the list of New York Times best-seller for 34 weeks. Pat Okker, University of Missouri College of Arts and Science professor of the English department, says “William Trogdon has deep ties to the University of Missouri.” The attention he gives to the oft-neglected places of American culture appealed to the nation’s reader, Okker continues.

William Trogdon has been presented with 4 degrees from University of Missouri. He holds doctorate, master’s, bachelor’s degrees in English, as well as a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism.

After Blue Highways’ success, Trogdon continued his travel novel writings and released in 1999 the “River Horse: The Logbook of a Boat Across America and in 2008 the “Road to Quoz: An American Mosey”.

Trogdon is not only successful with his travel novels but including his historical writings. He also wrote in 1991 the “PrairyErth (A Deep Map): An Epic History of the Tallgrass Prairie Country” which is a history and a comprehensive map of Chase County, Kan. He also released “Columbus in the Americas” in 2002 which is a short history of Christopher Columbus’ journeys.

Honorary degrees in University of Missouri are presented to former students or graduates who have achieved distinction. It is also presented to people who have contributed distinctive services to Missouri or to the university, and also to individuals with high distinction internationally.

University of Missouri will present Trogdon’s degree and will hear him speak at the Honors Commencement Ceremony on December 17, 2011 at 8:30 am in Jesse Auditorium on the university’s campus.
