Anne Lindberg to Speak on Unique Installation in New Rockhurst Academic Building

WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 11, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — At 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, renowned artist Anne Lindberg will return to Kansas City to introduce and discuss the significance of the custom artwork she created to serve as the symbolic centerpiece of Rockhurst University’s new academic building, Pedro Arrupe, S.J., Hall.

The presentation in the lobby of Arrupe Hall is part of the ongoing celebration for the opening of Arrupe Hall and the University’s Ignatian Heritage Month activities.

Lindberg’s works “tap a non-verbal physiological landscape of body and space, provoking emotional, visceral and perceptual responses,” according to the artist’s statement. Lindberg’s unique, meditative work in Arrupe Hall is built to express the University core value of wisdom and incorporates the University’s motto, “sapientia aedificavit sibi domum,” a Latin phrase meaning “wisdom has built herself a home” derived from Proverbs 9:1. The verse also references the seven pillars of wisdom, expressed in Lindberg’s art through purple-hued concrete panels depicting the seven states of water.

Housed in the brand-new $25 million Arrupe Hall, Lindberg’s work becomes one of several reflection sites throughout campus, including the University’s “heritage walkway” from Troost Avenue to the Paseo and the statue of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order whose members established Rockhurst in 1910.

Lindberg’s work has been exhibited at the Haw Contemporary Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri, the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and her commissions include architectural artwork for the Richard Boling Federal Building in Kansas City, Missouri.
