Attorney General’s Office to offer mortgage-settlement forums in every county in Missouri — forums set to provide information, sign up Missourians who might qualify —
Jefferson City, MO – March 12, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Attorney General Chris Koster said today he is sending Assistant Attorneys General into every county in the state during the week of March 26 to provide information to Missouri consumers about the national mortgage settlement and to register with his office Missourians who might qualify to receive benefits under the program.
“Missourians are eligible to receive significant help under the terms of the mortgage settlement, including money for those who have been foreclosed on and opportunities for others to refinance and lower their payments,” Koster said. “We want to make sure that every Missourian who might be eligible for assistance knows about these programs and knows how to participate.”
Koster said that about $156 million is slated to help Missouri homeowners and people who have been foreclosed on. He said he is concerned that if Missouri consumers do not use the full $156 million, some of the funds could go to other states. The forums are being held in each county to reach the most people, and to give Missourians the opportunity to hear about the program directly from the Attorney General’s office. Individuals can also register with the Attorney General’s Office at the forums to receive specific information as it comes available on participating in the program.
Koster noted that the settlement applies to five of the nation’s largest banks: Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Ally Financial (GMAC).
