Congressman Blunt Announces $942,000 for Homeless Assistance in Springfield & Joplin

Washington, DC – January 12, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt announced today grants totaling more than $942,009 to six local agencies that provide programs for homeless families and individuals. The Consortium of Care Homeless Assistance program provides grants for transitional housing, permanent housing and support services. Funding is awarded in an annual national competition.

“Agencies like the Kitchen in Springfield, the Economic Security Corporation and Lafayette House in Joplin are strong voices for the homeless in Southwest Missouri,” Congressman Blunt said. “In national competition for these funds they make a convincing case about why these federal resources are needed and best used here in long-standing programs that help our homeless population.”

Agencies receiving Consortium of Care Homeless Assistance from the US Department of Housing and Urban development are:

Jasper County Public Housing Agency $54,228

Economic Security Corporation of Southwest Area $210,269 (four programs)

Lafayette House $63,000

Housing Authority of Springfield $117,912

The Kitchen in Springfield $476,700 (two programs)

Church Army in Branson $68,906
