FEMA Grants Available For Missouri Residents And Infrastructure

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – June 26, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — As a result of the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding May 8 – 16, President Obama declared a Federal disaster making funds available across the state to assist in the recovery process. These are available to Missouri’s residents and infrastructure.

Assistance for Individuals

Homeowners, renters and business owners in 28 counties designated for Individual Assistance can apply for disaster aid.

Grants are available to homeowners and renters that cover a range of disaster-related expenses, including temporary housing, repairs and replacement of personal property. Registration can be done online – www.DisasterAssistance.gov – or by phone 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), (TTY 1-800-462-7585). Phone registration hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

Registered homeowners and renters without insurance can expect a phone call from a FEMA representative to inspect damage. The inspection is free; beware of fraudulent individuals attempting to charge for an inspection.

Individuals who could not work as a result of the storms may be eligible for disaster unemployment. More information is available by calling 1-800-788-4002.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private, non‑profit organizations. Renters and homeowners may be referred to SBA by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), while businesses should apply directly to SBA for disaster assistance.

Renters, homeowners and businesses can get information and apply for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA by going to www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance/ or calling 1-800659-2955.

Individual Assistance is available in the following counties: Adair, Barry, Barton, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Greene, Howell, Iron, Jasper, Jefferson, Laclede, Lawrence, Madison, Newton, Ozark, Polk, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Francois, Shannon, Texas, Washington and Webster.

Missouri Infrastructure and Services Assistance

Public Assistance funds the repair, restoration, reconstruction or replacement of public facilities or infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed May 8 – 16. Missouri state, local and private nonprofit officials work together with FEMA to coordinate the application process. Eligible applicants include State and local governments, other political subdivisions of the State and certain private nonprofits.

Public Assistance is available in the following counties: Adair, Barton, Bollinger, Camden, Cape Girardeau, Cedar, Crawford, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Greene, Hickory, Howell, Iron, Jasper, Knox, Laclede, Lewis, Madison, Maries, Marion, Miller, Newton, Oregon, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Polk, Pulaski, Ray, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Saline, Shannon, Shelby, Stone, Sullivan, Texas, Vernon, Washington, Wayne, Webster, and Wright.
