CertainTeed Corporation to build new Midwest production and distribution center, plans to make $100 million capital investment

JONESBURG, MO – April 5, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — A leading North American corporation that manufactures materials for commercial and residential builders plans to build a new Midwest production and distribution center in Jonesburg, Gov. Jay Nixon announced today. CertainTeed Corporation, which also exports its building material products worldwide, is planning a capital investment of $100 million in an expansion that is expected to create 100 new local jobs.

“Today’s announcement is another example of Missouri’s resurgent manufacturing industry, which continues to spur economic growth and create jobs in every corner of our state,” Gov. Nixon said. “A testament to Missouri’s competitive business climate and skilled workforce, CertainTeed’s decision to locate its new state-of-the-art production and distribution facility in Jonesburg will create jobs and provide a significant boost to the area’s economy. By continuing to pursue pro-growth policies and maintaining our strict fiscal discipline, we will keep our state’s economy moving forward.”

CertainTeed’s new Jonesburg facility will serve as the production and distribution site for residential roofing shingles, including a new 60,000 square-foot manufacturing facility and a 150,000 square-foot warehouse. Construction on the project is expected to begin this summer.

“The Jonesburg plant will play a strategic role in meeting the ongoing demand for CertainTeed roofing shingles in the Midwest and ensuring top-notch service to key customers,” said Tom Smith, president of CertainTeed Roofing. “Having been founded 108 years ago in nearby East St. Louis, CertainTeed has a special bond with the region and we are tremendously appreciative of the support we’ve received from Gov. Nixon, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, officials from Warren and Montgomery counties, and the city of Jonesburg.”

“The economic impact of this project will ripple through our entire region and we are pleased to welcome CertainTeed to our community,” said Jonesburg Mayor Bob Sellenriek. “I want to give special thanks to the State of Missouri and both Montgomery and Warren counties for their crucial support for this important project.”

To assist CertainTeed Corporation in moving forward with its growth plans, the company has been offered a strategic economic incentive package from the state of Missouri that it can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria.

Missouri’s manufacturing industry growth has garnered national attention in recent years. Last year, CNN- Money reported, “move over Detroit, the big guns of manufacturing have turned sweet on Missouri.” The state’s resurgent manufacturing sector is being led by the auto industry, where Ford and General Motors are currently in the midst of historic expansions at their respective Missouri plants, a combined investment of approximately $1.5 billion that is creating more than 3,200 new manufacturing jobs. And according to Ball State University’s 2012 Manufacturing and Logistics Report, Missouri has one of the most competitive manufacturing tax climates in the nation, one of just five states to receive an “A” in that category.

CertainTeed is a North American manufacturer of building materials for both commercial and residential construction and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA of France. CertainTeed currently has approximately 5,700 employees and 60 facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
