The organization is one of two maternity homes in the Kansas City area that addresses the need of homeless pregnant women, including young females under 18. “State Farm is dedicated to helping people live confidently and get to a better state,” said Independence State Farm Agent Chad Mitchell. “Through Neighborhood Assist, we are pleased to help Mother’s Refuge provide these young women and moms with a safe, stable environment and with the parenting and financial skills they need to benefit their families.”

Almost 4,000 submissions were received through State Farm Neighborhood Assist, a youth-led philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhoods. At least one cause was received from every state. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board, a group of 30 students who are passionate about social responsibility, reviewed the submissions and selected the top 200 finalists based on criteria they created. The general public then voted to arrive at the 40 winners. In the four years of the program, 160 causes have received $4 million to enact change in their communities.
