Blunt Announces $621,484 in Community Development Block Grants for Two Missouri Communities

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – September 29, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that two Missouri communities have been approved for a total of $621,484 in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED).

The city of Blackwater has been approved for a CDBG in the amount of $121,484. The CDBG will be utilized for downtown revitalization efforts. The project will consist of the construction of a new parking lot, a pedestrian walkway to provide better handicapped accessibility to the business area and a retaining wall.

Sullivan County has been approved for a CDBG in the amount of $500,000. The CDBG will be utilized for water system improvements. The project will take place throughout the entire Sullivan County PWSD No. 1 boundaries and will benefit the residents of the district by providing a more constant water pressure and an increase of 600,000 gallons of elevated storage.

The CDBG program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides grants and loan funds to cities with a population under 50,000 and counties under 200,000 to assist in a variety of public works and economic development projects.
