BOND ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $200,000 IN HOUSING, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDS HEADED TO BLUE SPRINGS

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 16, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Kit Bond, ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds our nation’s housing programs, today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will release more than $200,000 in federal funds to the City of Blue Springs.

“During this tough economic time when many hardworking Missourians risk losing their job and home, affordable housing and job creation is more critical than ever,” said Bond.  “These funds are an important investment in our communities and will provide many families with safe, affordable housing and expand economic opportunities for many in Blue Springs.”

Bond announced that HUD will award $229,193 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to the City of Blue Springs. The CDBG program provides grants to state and local governments to ensure communities are able to offer safe, affordable housing and create jobs through the expansion and retention of businesses.

As ranking member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, Bond worked to increase funding for critical programs, like the Community Development Block Grant program, to help the nation’s most vulnerable, in the Senate-passed fiscal year 2010 Transportation-Housing spending bill.  The Senator stressed that these community-based programs are critical to helping families overwhelmed by the ongoing housing and economic crisis.
