The eight county Kansas City metropolitan area recorded 519 single family building permits during April, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,720 according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s (HBA) monthly Residential Building Permit Statistics report. With the first four months of the year showing nearly a 30% increase from the same period in 2015, local home builders’ activity is at approximately 75% of the average recorded during the past thirty-five years. Permits for new single family residential building reached the highest one-month total since October 2007 with 537 permits issued during March, according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s (HBA) monthly Residential Building Permit Statistics report. The 537 single family permits issued in March brings the year’s first quarter total to 1201 single family units compared to last year’s first quarter number of 893—an increase of 34%. Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-05) and Congressman Sam Graves, (R-06) collaborated to advance four major flood control projects in the Kansas City metro: Kansas City Levees, Turkey Creek Basin, Dodson Industrial District, and Swope Park Industrial Area. The two sent a letter to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure urging the committee to include authorization for these projects in the upcoming Water Resources Development Act, (WRDA).
