Department of Economic Development awards $746,904 in Youth Opportunities tax credits to four Missouri service organizations

JEFFERSON CITY – March 11, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Missouri Department of Economic Development today announced that four Missouri organizations that offer various services to Missouri children have been approved for a total of $746904 in Youth Opportunities Program tax credits.

The Wyman Center, Eureka, has been approved for $245,683 in YOP tax credits. The Wyman Center will utilize the YOP tax credits to fund its Teen Outreach Program (TOP) and serve 700 teens from economically disadvantaged circumstances to learn life skills. Teens participating in the program will help with community service projects and attend structured weekly group meetings to discuss topics such as decision making, goal setting and communication skills.

Ozanam, Kansas City, has been approved for $70,276 in YOP tax credits. Ozanam will utilize the YOP tax credits to provide homeless or at-risk youth in the Kansas City area with a wide range of programs. These services include housing; assistance with financial planning and budgeting; monitored vocational services and job placements; and opportunities for community service through a volunteer program.

Kingdom House, St. Louis, has been approved for $186,621 in YOP tax credits. Kingdom House will utilize the YOP tax credits to provide programming that promotes positive growth and development for youth ages 6 to 21 during out-of-school hours. These activities include an afterschool program, summer camp, teen and young adult development programs and employment skills training.

Presbyterian Children’s Services, St. Louis, has been approved for $244,324 in YOP tax credits. Presbyterian Children’s Services will utilize the YOP tax credits to expand its community-based services to serve an additional 600 youth throughout the state, providing children who are at-risk for abuse and neglect with in-home therapy; in-home and school-based mentoring programs to help support and strengthen families; and help parents learn to function with and care for children.

“Investment in our children is an investment in the future of our state,” DED Director Linda Martínez said. “I am pleased that we can partner with these service organizations in their outreach efforts to abused, disadvantaged, homeless, neglected and at-risk children in their local areas and throughout Missouri.”

The Youth Opportunities Program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides tax credits to organizations administering positive youth development or crime prevention projects.
